Become a Valuable Resource
The best way to get ahead in business is to give a hand up. That is the beauty of the business breakfast networking: the more you know one another, the better we can pass the word out to our personal contacts what is available to meet their needs. We become a valuable resource for our field of influence.
As we meet and greet we answer that burning question:
How can I know if someone I’m speaking to is someone you’d like to meet? In other words, what would make a good referral for you?
Fran Interviews Entrepreneurs
March 2010, the guest speaker was entrepreneur Cliff Oxford interviewed over the phone by Fran Tarkenton, the NFL Hall of Famer (mostly with Minesota Vikings) and 20-times-over entrepreneur. For 14 years, Fran has been building a service for 55 to 60 thousand entrepreneurs so businesses can fax or email for all sorts of unlimited access with business people and with top rated lawyers in all fields of specialty to protect and grow your business. Up to ten collection letters a month and review of contracts are added features for your peace of mind.
Cliff Oxford
Cliff Oxford, is the three year consecutive winner of the Atlanta Entrepreneur of the Year who built STI Knowledge, a company responsible for inventing customer support for the IT industry. He grew his company from one to 650 people and grossing over $92 million. Cliff also endowed the Emory Business program at Emory University, one of the most prominent universities in the South East. Cliff emphasized two things on the call:
- Test your idea. If you can convince someone to prepay, you have a product people want and need. When Cliff was with UPS, he saw that they needed a service that was not available. Instead of designing it first and trying to sell it, he went to CFOs and the like to find out if people wanted it, testing the market before building it. “Slam dunks” don’t work but market adapters do make money. Bill Gates didn’t want to do DOS but it was what people wanted.
- Cliff brought forward his marketing philosophy to have people come to you:
- decide you are leader in your field,
- embrace leadership,
- have a passion for it,
- people come to you as a leader,
- set the best practices and standards which raise the industry bar,
- exceed customer expectations.
- Above all, take risk to fail. Entrepreneurs have confidence that they will be able to figure it out.
I will let you know when and where the next Business Breakfast with Fran event is. There will also be a GotoMeeting event as well.
